Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are full-time experiences that include a stipend and housing. Applicants should have an undergraduate degree or equivalent as well as at least one past internship in the field for which they are applying or similar applicable experiences.

At the completion of the program, apprentices typically leave Asolo Rep ready for at least an entry-level job. Dates vary per position but most are September through May. Apprentices must be able to provide their own reliable transportation and possess a valid drivers’ license with a clean driving record.​

STAGE MANAGEMENT APPRENTICES

DESCRIPTION: Positions offer the opportunity to interact directly with AEA stage managers and actors, union stagehands and nationally recognized directors and designers working in a large rotating repertory company gaining invaluable hands on experience. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and knowledge of the production process. Looking for 9 apprentices for the Asolo Rep season which runs Augusts 2019 through June 2020.  Apprenticeships vary in length, please indicate availability in cover letter.

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have excellent communication skills and knowledge of the production process. Applicants should have a college degree in theatre with a focus on stage management or design technology. Professional experience at a regional or summer stock theatre and/or with union crews is required.

SPECIAL EVENTS APPRENTICE

DESCRIPTION: Position assists the Special Events Manager to design, coordinate, and execute Asolo Rep’s internal and external season events, including fundraising galas, Opening Night parties, dinner and cocktail parties, corporate events, luncheons, and meetings. Responsibilities include organizing meetings and taking minutes, set up and strike of events, managing RSVP lists, payments and letters, mailing and e-blasts, assisting in design of event marketing materials, maintaining special events website pages, interacting with a spectrum of individuals (Board members, donors, prospects, staff, caterers, vendors, volunteers), assisting with rentals and contracts, coordinating entertainment and other duties as required. 

REQUIREMENTS: Ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented, self-disciplined and have the ability to multi-task and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment. Candidate should have a degree in a related field, excellent communication skills, a professional demeanor, a positive attitude and the ability to stay calm under pressure, being able to lift 25 lbs, and flexibility to work nights/weekends. Experience with Microsoft Office and social media promotions is required. Must be interested in a career in events.

DRAMATURGY & CASTING APPRENTICE

One Position for Full Season

DESCRIPTION: This position works closely with the Associate Artistic Director, and Dramaturg and Literary Manager on a broad range of projects and initiatives in the Artistic Department. Duties include: evaluating and responding to script submissions, conducting dramaturgical research for main stage productions, creating a variety of published materials (including season playbill articles), leading talkbacks, providing administrative support for public programming, facilitating local auditions, fielding and reviewing casting submissions, and other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS: Must have a strong background in dramatic literature. Applicants must submit a writing sample (either a script report or a sample playbill article). Ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Dramaturgy or similar applicable experience. Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, a good sense of humor, and an interest in the American regional theatre.

DEVELOPMENT APPRENTICE

One Position for Full Season

DESCRIPTION: Position will train alongside a 9-member development/events team collaborating with cross-departmental staff and board members to achieve charitable giving goals in support of productions, education and community outreach, and the FSU/Asolo Conservatory partnership.  Through ongoing assignments and special projects, the Development Apprentice will assist in areas including: 1) Annual Fund, which encompasses individual giving, corporate sponsorship, foundation/government grants, and special events; 2) Endowment, and 3) Capital Gifts.  The Apprentice will receive a well-rounded introduction to the many ways Asolo Rep raises funds and stewards donor relationships to meet immediate budget needs and long-term strategic goals, and will gain hands-on experience in:  donor relations, communications and record keeping; special events; and development planning for a $10 million LORT B Theatre.

 

REQUIREMENTS: Successful applicant will have strong writing and organizational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.  Experience in basic graphic design, PowerPoint, and digital communications, is a plus factor, as is experience with Tessitura.  Ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Arts Management or applicable experience. Please submit a writing and/or design sample such as a grant proposal, case statement, acknowledgement letter, or marketing piece.

COMPANY MANAGEMENT APPRENTICE

One Position for Full Season

DESCRIPTION: Position offers hands-on experience in company management and arts administration. Primary responsibilities include assisting with securing travel and housing accommodations, company correspondence, on call services and accommodating the day-to-day needs of artists, as well as providing administrative support for Board of Directors meetings, company events, and other administrative tasks to assist in smooth daily theatre operations in a major regional theatre. The Company Management Apprentice will share “on-call” duties for guest artists and Asolo Rep activities. On-call shifts will include evenings and weekends on a rotating basis, and will include closing/opening facilities, meeting vendors, driving guest artists, responding to emergencies, etc. 

 

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving abilities, a disposition for flexibility, and customer service experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is also required. Applicants should be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to think on their feet. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and be capable of lifting at least 25 pounds. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Arts Management or Stage Management, but equivalent experience will be considered. Prior experience in company management and customer service is a plus.
