Asolo Rep Awarded $60,000 Season Sponsorship from The Exchange

Posted: July 14 / 2022

(SARASOTA, FLA) — Asolo Repertory Theatre will receive a $60,000 grant from The Exchange in support of the 2022-2023 season. The grant represents the continuation of a longstanding relationship between the two Sarasota nonprofits.

Since its inception in 1962, The Exchange has awarded more than $9 million dollars in support of local arts organizations. The Exchange has supported Asolo Rep for over 40 years, and this year’s grant is awarded in memory of Elizabeth Lindsay, who co-founded The Exchange and actively served on the board of directors for 60 years, until her death in January 2022. Lindsay served on Asolo Rep’s board for 15 years and held multiple officer positions, including president. She also chaired Asolo Rep’s capital campaign that resulted in the current FSU Center for the Performing Arts, the theatre company's artistic home. In addition to steering the fundraising aspects, she was intimately involved in the construction process itself from start to finish. Asolo Rep is honored to accept this grant in memory of Lindsay, who played such an important role in the theatre's history.

“We continue to be grateful for the ongoing, generous support from The Exchange,” said Asolo Rep Managing Director Linda DiGabriele. “It’s encouraging to see an institution with such deep roots in the community that recognizes the importance of the arts and remains dedicated to supporting the work we’re doing. I’m particularly touched this year that the grant is being given in honor of Liz Lindsay, a personal friend and exceptional advocate for the arts, who played an incredibly important role in Asolo Rep’s history."

Asolo Rep’s 2022-2023 season is bookended by two classic musicals, kicking off in November with the timely masterwork Cabaret, based in 1939 Berlin and the dynamic and pleasure-filled Kit Kat Klub.

In the new year, Asolo Rep returns to a four-show repertory season, beginning with the harrowing adventure, bravery and friendship of Ken Ludwig’s The Three Musketeers. Next is Silent Sky, the remarkable true story of one extraordinary woman who took on the astronomy establishment to discover the mysteries embedded in the sky. January brings the hilarious new play Chicken & Biscuits to the stage, exploring the tenderness of family, the joy of reconciliation and the nourishing power of love. Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a boisterous and moving new memory play about the foolishness of new love, the pains of Catholic guilt and the power of family takes the stage in March.

The season concludes in June with what many consider to be one of the best musicals of all time, Man of La Mancha, featuring one of theatre’s most beloved songs, “The Impossible Dream.”
