PETER ORKISZEWSKI, COMPANY MANAGER

April 13, 2020: Here is what Peter Orkiszewski, our Company Manager is reading/watching.

Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo

Co-winner of the 2019 Booker Prize along with Margaret Atwood’s latest release, this novel had not been on my literature radar until I finally picked it up in the Atlanta airport on my last trip pre-quarantine. Penned by an Anglo-Nigerian author based in London, this social novel weaves together the lives of a dozen British women and focuses on their unique intersectional identities in an exploration of both community and self. Named to over twenty best books of the year, this is an extraordinary novel that I can’t recommend highly enough!

Bon Appétit Test Kitchen

The wonderful chefs behind the monthly periodical also produce a delightful YouTube channel demonstrating their recipes and cooking techniques. Whether you’re a modern Julia Child or can’t boil a pot of water, the staff make cooking accessible with plenty of great cooking tips. One of my favorite video series is Gourmet Makes where a pastry chef recreates gourmet versions of snack food. But be warned…it’s easy to fall down a culinary rabbit hole!

GREG LEAMING, DIRECTOR OF THE FSU/ASOLO CONSERVATORY FOR ACTOR TRAINING

Week 2: (April 12, 2020) This weeks staff pick comes from Greg Leaming, Director of the FSU/Asolo conservatory for Actor Training and Associate Artist at Asolo Rep. He told us he couldn't pick between what he's reading and what he's watching so he gave us both!

Reading - I finally started reading HOWARDS END and its giving me great calm. The characters are tremendously witty but very real and honest, and Forster's voice is so strong, pointing to the way in which the culture, the whole social structure was beginning to change, to transform itself. Seems very appropriate for what we are going through today.

Watching- AUNTIE MAME, because, as Mame puts it, "Life is a banquet!" Important to remember that. And of course, camp is always helpful for me in times of stress!

MICHAEL DONALD EDWARDS, PRODUCING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Week 1 : (April 6, 2020) This week, our Staff Pick comes from Producing Artistic Director, Michael Donald Edwards. Michael told us he's been thinking and watching It's a Wonderful Life, this clip in particular, because in this time of crisis, when personal and institutional finances seem so uncertain, the best thing to do is stay calm, help your neighbors if possible, and remember that we will make it through this together.
